Why I am running for Selma City Council:

My decision to run for city council originally evolved from the desire I had to become more involved in our community. As I began my own quest to become more informed about our city government and the issues and decisions that face Selma, I found that there really wasn't very much information publicly available.

I am a firm believer in the idea that our government is in place to represent the goals of the people and serve the residents of our community. Without a well-informed community and open communication between our residents and our elected officials, our city government cannot truly represent the desires and goals of those who live in our community.

I believe Selma residents need to be better informed of the issues facing our community, the decisions that need to be made, and the actions of our elected officials. If elected to city council, there are three areas that I will seek to advance with this goal in mind:

1. Communication
My goal, if elected to the Selma City Council, is to strengthen the lines of communication between our city residents and our city government. Stronger communication between our residents and city government will better guarantee that the issues addressed, and the decisions made, will be representative of the goals and interests of our residents.

2. Transparency
If elected, I will work to ensure that for each issue brought before the city council, prior notice and comprehensive background information is made publicly available in advance. This will allow those who are interested in and affected by the council’s decisions to educate themselves and get involved in the issues facing our community.

3. Responsibility
I believe it is the duty of every city council member to make responsible decisions that represent the interests of our residents. Responsibility requires that the decisions that affect our city not be made by the city council without first getting adequate background information. If elected, my votes and proposals will be guided by careful research and input from our community.

If you support these ideas, I humbly ask for your vote on May 14th!
